Assignment background
Storage batteries are widely used in a wide range of applications, from electric vehicles and renewable energy to industrial and residential applications, and the reliability of the manufacturing process determines the product’s competitiveness. Fixing components inside the cell is a particularly important process for ensuring stable operation over a long period of time while withstanding vibration and shock.
However, conventional RTV silicone application processes have the following challenges:
- Deterioration of quality due to dripping
Residual pressure after application causes the silicone to ooze out and drip, which adheres to surrounding wiring and components, resulting in poor appearance and reduced insulation, leading to increased rework and reduced yields. - Variation in coating accuracy
The amount of adhesive dispensed varies depending on the skill of the operator and the conditions of the equipment, resulting in uneven fixing strength. In particular, insufficient application is likely to occur in small gaps and deep areas, posing a risk of impairing durability. - Mass production constraints
Additional processes were required to deal with dripping and detect defects, making it difficult to shorten the takt time. On mass production lines, issues emerged in terms of efficiency, cost, and quality.
Benefits
- Anti-drip and stable application
The suck-back function of the piston valve SV35DA and eco-PEN series reliably releases residual pressure when dispensing is complete. This eliminates dripping and stringing, and prevents contamination of surrounding parts. As a result, the rework rate has been significantly reduced, and the cleanliness of the production site has also been improved. - Improved reliability of component fastening
The required amount can be supplied accurately and stably, ensuring uniform strength at the cell fixing point. Stable performance is also demonstrated in vibration and shock tests and long-term operation evaluations, improving the reliability of the final product. The risk of defects is significantly reduced. - Improving efficiency in mass production processes
Simultaneous multi-point processing using a high-performance Cartesian robot shortens takt time. The conventional inspection and repair processes are eliminated, improving throughput. Setup changes are easy even on multi-product lines, making it possible to build a flexible mass production system. - Cost reduction and yield improvement
Material loss due to dripping and poor application was reduced, optimizing the use of expensive RTV silicone. Furthermore, reduced rework reduced man-hours, resulting in overall reductions in manufacturing costs. Yield rates improved, leading to increased productivity and profitability. - Strengthening long-term credibility and brand value
The uniform and beautiful coating finish enhances the appearance quality, durability, and safety of the product, improving its reliability in the market and strengthening its competitiveness in high-reliability markets such as EVs and energy storage systems.
