Assignment background
On food production lines, when filling tubular bags with highly viscous food ingredients such as ketchup or dressing, the required filling volume varies greatly depending on the product specifications. For example, it is necessary to handle a wide range of volumes, from small bags (approximately 10-20ml) for restaurant chains to large-capacity packs (over 1,000ml) for commercial use. However, conventional filling equipment is prone to problems such as instable accuracy at small volumes and insufficient flow rate at large volumes, making high-speed filling difficult, and has presented the following challenges:
- Lack of filling accuracy
When filling small volumes, even slight errors become relatively large, resulting in non-standard products. - Filling speed constraints
Large-volume filling does not ensure the required flow rate, slowing down the production speed of the entire line. - Inefficiency of switching between multiple products
Because the capacity differs for each product, the burden of adjusting the equipment and changing the setup was great, hindering production efficiency.
Benefits
The newly introduced sanitary filling pump (food series) is capable of handling dosages from 10ml to 2,000ml and volumetric flow rates from 13ml/min to 80 liters/min, and its greatest strength is its ability to flexibly handle small to large bags. This has significantly improved the previous issues.
- Achieves high-precision filling even with small volumes
With a dispensing accuracy of ±1%, even small volumes of 10 ml can be filled accurately, significantly reducing the variations in content volume and defective products that previously occurred. - High-speed filling even with large volumes
With a maximum flow rate of 80 liters per minute, it is possible to fill large bags exceeding 1,000 ml without slowing down the line speed, realizing greater efficiency in the large-volume filling process, which was previously a bottleneck. - Flexible response to high-mix, low-volume production
By supporting a wide range of dosages, equipment adjustments when switching products are minimized. The same equipment can be used for both sachets and bulk packs, improving the flexibility of the production line. - Cost reduction and hygiene
Material loss and refilling work have been reduced, cutting running costs. Furthermore, the sanitary design, which complies with EHEDG and FDA guidelines, has shortened cleaning time while ensuring hygiene.
